Bahrain

Best-known for its ancient culture, Egypt’s UNESCO sites cover many thousands of years of monuments and religious sites from the time of the pharaohs through its Christian and Islamic periods.

Israel
The deep and multi-layered history of Israel shows in its list of UNESCO sites, ranging from early human evolution through Biblical sites and the Crusader and Ottoman periods to the modernist architecture of Tel Aviv.

Iran
The UNESCO sites of Iran cover thousands of years of architecture, religion, trade, gardens and more. Many of them are serial properties. So far, none has been added to UNESCO’s list of endangered sites yet.

Jerusalem
Jerusalem, a multi-layered ancient city important to three world religions, is listed separately from any country because of modern-day politics.

Jordan
Nabatean, Ummayad, early Christian and Ottoman sites fill Jordan’s UNESCO site list, plus two nature reserves.

Lebanon
The UNESCO sites in Lebanon – all classified as cultural sites – include the remains of ancient cities, a Christian site, a collection of castles, an astounding Roman temple complex, and a monument of modernist architecture. Three of the seven sites are on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage in Danger.

The six UNESCO sites in Palestine include key historical locations that are considered sacred for Jews, Muslims and Christians. Four of the six are listed as endangered.

United Arab Emirates
The UAE has three UNESCO sites: one is about the role of oases in the region over many centuries, one is about the very earliest hunter-gatherers in the region, and the third is an important nature preserve.

Yemen
